Sustainable Stoke: Transitions to Sustainability in the Surfing World 

 

Sustainable Stoke: Transitions to Sustainability in the Surfing World brings together more than 40 contributors to explore what sustainability means within and beyond surfing. Published in 2015 and co-edited by Gregory Borne and Jess Ponting, it draws on perspectives from business, research, environmental organisations and surfing communities.

The book began as a series of research interviews exploring the relationship between surfing and sustainability. Through collaborations with the  Center for Surf Research

at San Diego State University and the not-for-profit organisation Sustainable Surf, it developed into a wide-ranging collection examining the opportunities, tensions and practical challenges involved in creating change.

​

Its themes extend well beyond surfing: international business, innovation, cultural relationships, environmental responsibility and the distribution of benefits from development. These perspectives continue to provide a valuable resource for teaching, research and discussion about how sustainability can inform decisions in different organisations and communities.
